The College of New Caledonia and Environmental Dynamics Inc. (EDI) are collaborating on an appliedresearch project that will integrate unnmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and remote sensing approaches tomonitor changes in fish habitat as part of the Chilako River Restoration Project in northern British Columbia.EDI seeks to research and develop the use of UAV and remote sensing technology to easily detect and quantifychanges in river characteristics and fish habitat over time. Project outcomes will help EDI develop andcommercialize an innovative monitoring approach that significant reduces the cost of regular helicopter-basedmonitoring and provides the company with a new service for the environmental sector. Students in theCollege's Natural Resources and Environmental Technology program will be involved in all aspects of thisproject and will develop important innovation skills in using emerging technologies such as UAVs inenvironmental restoration projects.
