SkySquirrel Technologies is a Nova Scotia based technology company that utilizes Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology for monitoring and improving crop health. The company was recently included in the 2015 CIX Top 20 which is a showcase of the hottest, most innovative Canadian technology companies selected by a committee of investors and professionals in the finance and technology industries. SkySquirrel's system is helping commercial vineyards improve crop yields and reduce costs, tackling stubborn viruses such as leafroll disease and flavescence doree, where often the only solution for an affected crop is to tear out the infected vines before the disease spreads through the entire vineyard. SkySquirrel would like to collaborate with NSCC's Applied Geomatics Research Group (AGRG) to develop methods for calibrating infrared sensors so that images captured under varying light conditions can be used for predictive analysis.
