Funds are requested for a computational hardware to support research in air quality, climate, and biogeochemical cycling. The primary hardware requirement is sufficient hard-disk storage. A secondary hardware requirement is for an associated computing environment. The proposed infrastructure will form an essential part of the research program of the Atmospheric Composition Analysis Group at Dalhousie University. The infrastructure will be used to support satellite retrievals of atmospheric composition, and interpretation of observations using a global numerical modeling of atmospheric composition. Expected results include improved estimates of global air quality, of global emissions of atmospheric pollution, and an improved understanding of the effect of changes in atmospheric composition on climate. The infrastructure will form an integral part of the training of students and postdoctoral fellows in the group.
