Hydrogen, if produced from a renewable source such as water, is a promising solution to the climate change and global energyneed. Meanwhile, thanks to its various energy conversion technologies through either powering fuel cells or fuelling engines andturbines, hydrogen is a green fuel to transportation and power generation. The challenges exist to distribute and store hydrogenwith the desired energy density and required safety. Cleanwave is a technology company currently developing on demandhydrogen energy products. The existing research and development focus is optimizing and controlling catalyzed aluminum waterreactions for utilization of the heat and hydrogen produced for transportation and power production. Through this OCE fundedproject, the University of Waterloo will work with Cleanwave and target a couple critical technical issues such as reactantsformulation and process control, which hinder the commercialization of their hydrogen production technology. Upon the completionof this project, the research and development will be extended to design and scale up the reactors for difficult applications.
