英文摘要
Through a collaboration with Talok Fisheries LP, research is proposed to assist the Lake Babine First Nation toimprove upon the economic performance of their inland commercial fishery for sockeye salmon whileprotecting co-migrating sockeye stocks of conservation concern. In this fishery, revenues could be enhancedsubstantially by timing harvest opportunities to maximize flesh quality if it could be done so withoutcompromising the ecological sustainability of their commercial operations. This is limited by a lack ofknowledge of both the timing of stock-specific migration patterns through Lake Babine and flesh deteriorationprocesses. The proposed research will employ both external mark-recapture tagging combined withphysiological tools to assess run-timing of Lake Babine sockeye salmon and monitor flesh deteriorationthrough the fishing season.
