The technical challenge to be undertaken is to design and develop a Web-based information framework that will allow CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining operators and other personnel at J/E Bearing and Machine Ltd. (J/E Bearing) to access critical training materials at their workstation via a tablet application. The planned framework will provide an integrated "information dashboard" that all operators on the production floor can use to access setup instructions compared to searching for a supervisor which results in significant downtime. The dashboard will also feature general company news and updates as well as CNC machining specific information eliminating the need for operators to leave their workstation for further instructions. As a result of testing already undertaken by J/E Bearing; the company anticipates that the digital supervisor solution will lead to a production increase in the area of 25%. The ultimate goal for J/E Bearing is to have a manufacturing support system integrated with production that reduces down time, and costs and increases quality. The CNC machining at J/E Bearing affects sectors in Canada such as defense, agriculture and food processing among others.
