Defense & Aviation Wiring Inc. (dba DAVWIRE)-a London, ON-based contract manufacturer in the electrical/electronic arena, incorporated since 2003, that specializes in wire harnesses, electrical panels, (e.g. power distribution and controls), and electro-mechanical (Mechatronic) assemblies-seeks to partner with Fanshawe College to develop a prototype energy harvesting suit based on a proprietary elasto-polymer fabric capable of retaining kinetic energy produced when that fabric is deformed. Working with faculty and students from Fanshawe's School of Design, particularly the Fashion Design advanced diploma program, the prototype suit will serve as a platform for both technical demonstrations of their elasto-polymer fabric and its energy harvesting capabilities and further lab experimentation with the fabric as a wearable technology. Ultimately, the suit is intended for medical research, medical rehabilitation services, and personnel health monitoring within highly active environments such as law enforcement, emergency services, and the armed forces.
