Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in collaboration with Spartan Controls Ltd. will investigatethe utilization of various concentrations of methane, a potent greenhouse gas (GHG), as fuel in an innovativedirect methane Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) to produce electricity and evaluate usable energy conversion andemission reduction. The proposed project is the first phase of a multi-year innovative applied research initiativeto develop an integrated direct methane SOFC system for use on well pads at the conventional oil and gas andoil sands operations in Western Canada.
