The Ontario Beekeepers' Association (OBA) works to ensure a thriving and sustainable beekeeping industry inOntario. The association advocates for beekeepers' interests, supports honey bee research and delivers practicaltraining and information. The OBA has approached the College's Honours Bachelors of Applied Technology(Biotechnology) program to examine the effectiveness of Ontario honey as a wound treatment. In partnershipwith the OBA, Fanshawe College will collect data and complete analysis from a sample of 40 apiaries inOntario. The goal is to identify the correlation between apiary conditions and honey which has properties thatcould be effective for wound treatment. The outcomes of this project would result in the creation of a newhoney product with a much higher price-point for Ontario's beekeepers. Through participation in this project,the Fanshawe student research assistants (RAs) will improve their understanding of data collection methods,experimental design and testing, and will have the opportunity to participate in a research project in a clientfacing role.
