Inside every electronic product, from smartphones to mainframes, we find a multitude of densely packed wires that connect millions of components. Each wire can deliver billions of bits per second! The complexity of this interconnect network is amazing, and its proper design is crucial to developing better electronic products. Interconnect design, however, is a daunting task. This Chair will develop powerful computer methods for the design of interconnect networks. Similar networks, although much bigger, distribute energy to our cities. The Chair's contributions can be applied to them as well, and will help to minimize blackouts and maximize the penetration of renewable energy sources.
