The primary objective of this Chair program is to develop innovative technologies for MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) that are realized with nanotechnology and novel micro/nanofabrication processes. We will investigate MEMS integrated with carbon nanotubes toward achieving revolutionary device performance and functionalities. Medical microdevices for intelligent implants and microsurgical applications will be studied to enable advanced minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy. Targeted devices include adaptive stents and stent grafts, brain aneurysm wireless sensors, and devices for magnetic-resonance-imaging (MRI) guided surgery, offering new paths to fighting vascular and other diseases while expanding contributions of MEMS to medical engineering and healthcare areas.
