I propose to continue examining the role of attention in human and computer vision systems. I suggest that visual processing in humans is based on a particular general purpose structure that can be tuned dynamically to adapt it for the tasks at hand. Combining theoretical, computational, psychophysical and brain imaging methods, I hope to develop and prove new methods by which computer systems may analyze images more effectively as well as to expand our knowledge of visual processing in the human brain with the goal of better understanding deficits of visual processing and perhaps point to useful therapeutic strategies.
