This program aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of transposable elements, a class of genetic parasites abundantly present in genomes, and their contribution to the diversity of genetics and biological traits in humans and other species. The research uses an integrative approach combining research methodologies of bioinformatics, genomics, and molecular biology in conjunction with the development of high-throughput genomic methodologies. The research will continue to bring significant advancements to research in human genetics, improve our understanding of the underlying genetic basis of disease and genetic variability, and generate novel technologies and tools with applications in areas such as genetic testing.
