The primary aim of my research program is to improve our understanding of wave interactions and other dynamical processes that occur in the atmosphere and affect weather and climate. In order to do so, I will develop mathematical models based on the conservation laws of physics and seek solutions using analytical and numerical techniques informed by careful comparisons of the results with existing observations, measurements and experimental results. I will investigate atmospheric waves that occur on a range of different spatial and temporal scales including vortex waves which occur in cyclonic vortices such as hurricanes, planetary waves which drive the general circulation of the atmosphere, and internal gravity waves which result from the combined effects of the buoyancy and gravitational forces. I will also study the coupling between dynamical and chemical processes in the middle atmosphere and the interactions between internal gravity waves and ionospheric disturbances in the upper atmosphere. My research will ultimately help to improve the representation of waves in climate and weather models. **
