The goal of this collaborative research is to develop a new insight into the fabrication process of so-called**two-cavity Fibre Bragg Grating (2C FBG) sensors employed for direct measurements of strain and temperature**inside high-voltage power generators. The abnormal vibrations and elevated temperatures of such installations**are an indication of a problem that, if not addressed immediately, could lead to significant outage and/or**replacement expenses. Today, FBGs remain the exclusive solution for sensors having to work inside such a**hostile environment of high voltages and strong electromagnetic fields. To address the manufacturing**deficiencies related to the use of hydrogenated fibres for fabrication of 2D FBG, we propose to investigate**photosensitive fibres. A better stability of the photosensitive fibre and the potentially faster cavity writing time**have the potential to yield a better-quality product with tightened variation within the same batch as well as**from batch to batch.
