Advanced analytical techniques for control of pesticides in cannabis oil extract formulations

On October 17th, 2018, Canada will become the first industrialized country to legalize cannabis, with strict**production and retailing criteria. Certificates of analysis (COA) that report accurate ingredients and confirm**acceptable levels of pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants will be mandatory. Therefore, to**comply with regulations and ensure consumer safety, producers are responsible to hire a qualified Narcotic**Control Licensed laboratory to produce a COA for final lot release. To meet these challenges and demands, the**University of Alberta will work with Molecular Science Corp to develop and validate sample preparation**methods and advanced analytical techniques for analysis of pesticides in cannabis oil products. The analytical**techniques will enable determination of the levels of pesticides in the cannabis oil products to ensure Health**Canada's maximum residue levels (MRL) of pesticides are met. The results will be used to guide the final**QA/QC lot release for producers.**
