With the technological advances made possible by the arrival of 3D printing, the Centre de métallurgie du Québec has stand out in Canada through its involvement in various consortiums and research groups. The Centre has become a recognized leader across Canada for its collaborative work on additive manufacturing through the addition of three 3D printing technologies. The impossibility of obtaining metal powders with custom chemical composition is the main problem that the CMQ and its partners has encountered in recent years. That problem had inhibited the development of new industrial applications. To compensate for this lack in the chain of innovation, CMQ and its partners desire to put together an NSERC Industrial Research Chair. This proposal will enable the development of custom metallic powders (aluminium, tool steel, titanium, nickel, aluminides, etc.) suitable, among others, to additive manufacturing technologies and thermal spraying. No such initiative exists in Canada. The IRCC will make innovation accessible to an entire industry, including several companies that would never have taken the risk or had the physical and financial means to benefit from these technological advances. The semi-industrial scale of the infrastructure present at CMQ will enhance the speed-to-market of newly developed applications and help Canadian companies to be more competitive in the global economy.**
