The Wawa gold corridor is an area to the east of Wawa, Ontario that is being explored for gold by Red PineExploration Inc. The corridor has been the site of numerous small gold mines in the past, but holdsconsiderable potential for further development. The type of gold deposit in this area is similar to many in otherparts of Canada and the questions faced by Red Pine are typical of those for other exploration companies, themost important of which is why gold grades are high in some areas and low in others. This research willaddress that question by examining the rocks in the Wawa gold corridor and assessing the reasons for goldenrichment using a variety of types of chemical analysis. These investigations will help Red Pine focus theirexploration efforts on areas that have favourable characteristics for enhanced gold grades and will allow themto more effectively utilize the geochemical data that they routinely collect. The Wawa system has someunusual characteristics compared to many other similar gold systems and the research will understand thesignificance of this and the potential implications for other deposits in Canada.
