英文摘要
Landfill gas (LFG) and leachate migration are major environmental problems that adversely impact public health and safety. Conventional methods used to monitor LFG and contaminated groundwater are costly and time-consuming. Instead, we propose a novel, fast and cost-effective means of obtaining a 3D model (extendable to 4D) of a landfill and its vicinity. This approach includes: 1) Geoelectrical subsurface characterization of the landfill via 2D direct current resistivity (DC) and induced polarization (IP) prospecting methods, to define leachate migration and accumulation 2) Measurement of upward-fluxing of the LFG 3) Numerical modelling of the possible coupling between leachate migration and accumulation with LFG emissions using optimization and statistical tools. This study is intended to be carried out at an undisclosed sanitary landfill in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
