The main purpose of this research is to create a low-cost, real-time solution that facilitates monitoring occupancy of the specific sites. The second objective is to test the embedded system and validate the continuous communications between sensors and cloud-based monitoring system. This solution will enable businesses and organizations to proactively plan and arrange occupancy consumption. The academic institution will gain specific practical implementation knowledge in the internet of things (IoT) and big data disciplines. The partner will benefit from streamlining their (IoT) sensor development and real-world adoption. Power consumption is a key feature of the proposed system. The solution is a combination of IoT and Workspace Monitoring System (WMS). This system performs real-time monitoring and analyzing of the occupancy of seats, rooms and buildings. It helps organizations to (1) Define workplace strategy aligned with organizations goals and user needs and expectations (2) Optimize the use of workspace to reduce costs (3) Effective management of real estate (exponential grow prediction) and (4) Gather historical data to provide valuable insights. This cost-effective system consists of interrelated cycles between embedded sensors, communications and cloud based IoT analysis dashboard.
