3D Asset Creation and Optimization for Virtual Reality (VR) Simulations for Kidney Stone Removal Operation

Marion Surgical is a company that combines surgery and the virtual reality (VR) to deliver a VR-powered surgical procedure product. This product - the K181 PCNL & Kidney Access Array - provides an extremely realistic training and rehearsal environment for surgeons. With machine learning and big data analytics, the platform is able to identify trends and patterns, making it more efficient with each use. The success of the platform has pushed Marion Surgical to begin expanding to include more virtual surgeries, starting with kidney stone removal, also known as Percutaneous Nephrolithotripsy (PCNL). In collaboration with Centennial College, Marion Surgical will create new assets and optimize existing assets that will be used for VR simulations of the surgery, especially since every surgical procedure requires specific tools and assets. As medical professionals begins to include innovative technology in its practices, this proposed project presents a unique opportunity to advance technology and give Canadian healthcare professionals an undeniable advantage.
