Digital Ink Technologies (DIT) Web Solutions consists of a team of designers, web developers and brand experts who create engaging and tailored online experiences for their customers. Their services include web development, web design, search engine optimization and branding. With this expertise, DIT Web Solutions and Centennial College's Wearable, Interactive and Mobile Technologies Access Centre in Health (WIMTACH) are partnering to design a wearable speech device that allows non-speaking persons to use head movement alone to select on-screen dialogue and communicate conversationally at a normal pace. Past speech generating devices (SDGs) were too bulky and limited in their options for communication, despite progression in the English language with the advent of online communications such as social media. And as the healthcare system continues to increase costs for families, especially those with non-speaking members and senior members, there is a stated need for technology that is affordable, accessible, current and easy-to-use. This device will reduce reliance of nonverbal individuals on their caregivers and improve patient care due to better communications.
