Numerical modelling tools make the development of new off-road vehicle used in construction, agriculture or leisure activities easier as these tools estimate vehicle behaviours and their field performance. Nevertheless, current numerical models used for off-road vehicle development are based on simple parameters describing soil characteristics and, result in the limits of simulation at the soil-vehicle (tire or caterpillar) interface.Interaction between off-road vehicles and soils are complex, depending on the vehicles mechanical aspects (tires, loads, suspension systems, etc.) and soils properties (compactness, water content, etc.). To help the improvement of the equipment quality, durability, and performance, a better understanding of the mechanisms involved at the soil-vehicle interface is necessary to take into account these criteria in the numerical models during equipment development. CAMSO company wishes to develop new tools and expertise for a better definition of the interaction between its product and soil; thus, reduce the time dedicated to product development.The goal of this project is to define behavioral laws for soils, specifically for off-road circulation, and improve modelling of the soil-vehicle interface. These behavioral laws will be developed using laboratory trials, field tests, and numerical tools.
