The CRC in Electric Energy Storage Systems for Transportation Electrification will focus on advanced power electronics solutions for electric vehicle traction batteries and ultracapacitors as well as plugged and wireless charging/inductive power transfer (IPT) technologies. The program includes new initiatives in the areas of transportation electrification, and is built upon the expertise and know-how of the candidate in a number of promising interdisciplinary areas related to power electronics, more specific to electric energy storage systems for transportation electrification. The major objectives of the CRC program are: Lithium-ion battery and ultracapacitor cell energy/power management; Novel PV/EV/grid-connected single-stage power conversion charging infrastructures; Wireless charging using inductive power transfer (IPT), to explore fast charging of city electric transit buses, trains, and trams powered by ultracapacitors. This CRC program will build a solid foundation for a new transportation electrification research platform and a world-class R&D facility.
