In Quebec, the residual forest biomass supply system is oriented towards energy end use. Some operations in this system must be adapted to the extraction of essential oils and the Quebec forestry-harvesting context. The overall objective of this project is to test the potential of an innovative pilot scale process for transport and extraction of essential oils from conifers. The heart of the innovation lies in avoiding the chipping of forest biomass by direct extraction of essential oils. So, the process is based on the use of suitable distillation's container which will be used both for the transport of biomass and the extraction of essential oils. It would enable the essential oils production chain to reduce the production costs of coniferous trees up to 30% and to increase essential oil export capacity of the industrial partner.
