This project will provide a tool for research against Covid-19 with an innovative approach combining isotopeenrichment of lung cell culture with microalgal molecules enriched in different stable isotopes and themolecular analysis of living cells by the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry. Researchusing NMR for the characterization of whole living cells are at the beginning and this project will offer theopportunity to use a metabolomic approach coupling NMR and mass spectrometry to fill analytical gaps in theunderstanding of the mobilization of active compounds, particularly in cell membranes during inflammatoryprocesses symptomatic of Covid-19. The objectives of this partnership will be to 1) develop better understandthe inflammatory processes symptomatic of Covid-19 in lung cells, 2) develop a model for the study of uniqueinflammatory processes via stable isotope enrichment processes of specific molecules produced by microalgae,3) produce new molecular tools and 4) develop an innovative platform of culture media enriched in isotopesfor the production of microalgae extract that can be used for any kind of mechanistic study and mobilization ofactive compounds.
