Pliteq is headquartered in Vaughan ON, is deeply committed to continued engineering research and development of its many products and manufacturing processes. Pliteq has been working on various aspects of polyurethane matting, sound and vibration abatement and various related technologies serving commercial and industrial customers throughout Canada and the world. Due to current global supply chain issues, Pliteq is looking to create a reliable supply of bio-based polyurethane binder for their recycled rubber products. Based on preliminary research, there is not a product like this that currently exists for commercial use. The overall goal of the project is to develop a new advanced line of polyurethane products that will include biobased polyol in the blends. This will be performed in collaboration with Lambton College to first analyze the current polyurethane blend for its composition and properties for Pliteq to have a starting point for its new formula development. The team will use liquid chromatography with attached mass spectrometry (MS) to identify the polyol and additives used in the current blend. Additionally, the team will measure the properties of the finished product that will act as a baseline for the newly develop blend. The research team will then work on the design and development of a biobased polyol for the polyurethane applications. At this stage Lambton College will carry out the validation of the polyol through the development of the curing process and test the final product against their current petroleum-based products. The outcomes stemming from the proposed research will contribute significantly to Pliteq's biobased polyol blend and various other products in the pipeline, which aims to propel the presence of the company in the urethane mat, and noise and vibration abatement industries. The success of this project will generate revenue that will allow Pliteq to move towards large-scale commercialization, including the construction of an enhanced manufacturing facility. This facility will support and create several jobs in manufacturing, construction, and research and development.
