We proposed an Internet of Things (IoT) based vital signs monitoring system which will provide continuous, non-invasive and unobtrusive monitoring of vital signs and activities of people outside of doctors' office. It is based on a miniature radar and our novel algorithms that can detect and extract parameters of interest from people up to 10 m distance. The device will detect user's respiration and heart rate and classify breathing pattern, detect falls and activities. The vital signs analysis result will be uploaded to the cloud drive and can be viewed by the supporting mobile app, which enables both the users and caregivers to check the users' current and historical status. Our product will allow users to receive care services from caregivers without leaving their homes, helping to relieve the pressure of the huge demand for elderly care services brought about by the aging population. Since our device is capable of detecting multiple signals, in this project we would like to perform market research and to direct our efforts towards developing the solution that has the best chance for commercial success. We plan to do that through direct interaction with the potential customers including elderly homes as well as through B2B interactions. The companies that we plan to approach are the ones that are already servicing the retirement home market. Data collected from these interactions will be analyzed and we will make a plan for the next step that will hopefully lead towards I2I Phase 1 application. The final deliverable will be a market assessment report.
