Typical subsurface investigation tools used on Earth are not applicable for In-Situ Resource Utilization and space mining applications on the Moon and other extraterrestrial bodies due to payload limitations in space missions. Similarly, heavy tools cannot be used at critical sites such as under a dam, power plant or pipelines, dense forests, or sites susceptible to liquefaction. The purpose of this project is to design a new compact portable Bio-Inspired Vibro-Based probe that meets the requirements for exploration in extreme environments such as extraterrestrial bodies, remote areas, or critical sites on Earth.
