Monitoring soil ions is of importance in order to maintain good soil health and quality. We aim to combine host-guest chemistry with electrode surfaces to fabricate devices capable of sensing and detecting ions related to soil chemistry. Specifically, the guest molecules, such as organic and inorganic ions are of interest and will be detected using electrodes decorated with hosts. Electrochemical methods will be used to quantify and differentiate ions in aqueous media and soil runoffs, and will allow for in-field measurements. The future applications of the developed technologies include agricultural and environmental monitoring and management. 9 HQP involved in the project will gain expertise in organic synthesis, surface chemistry and electrochemistry towards improving agricultural and environmental practices.
