Efficient and sustainable energy supplies are essential to the prosperity of Canadianeconomy. Presently, pressures to meet international goals for climate-changemitigation, combined with local needs to satisfy increasing energy demands and meet environmental regulations, represent Canada's greatest challenges in managing energysystems. The objective of this CRC program is to develop a set of spatially-distributed energy-and-environmental systems-analysis and risk-managementmethodologies and apply them to multiple Canadian regions. The results will helpreveal complexities in energy-and-environmental systems and obstacles that hindersustainable energy development. Thus, scientific bases can be provided for formulatingdesired policies that are of enormous socio-economic implications.
