英文摘要
Given three circles on a piece of paper, how many circles could you draw that only touch the boundaries of all three circles? Favero¿s research is inspired by similar questions asked by theoretical physicists (e.g., how many ways a string fits within a given space). Inputting a shape (e.g., a circle), one can output mathematical data called the "derived category" which dictates the physical behavior of the shape (e.g., how strings can be configured inside it). Favero discovers new mathematical theories that describe and generalize derived categories and uses them to solve mathematical problems and explain phenomena predicted by physicists.
