英文摘要
Through this novel international collaboration between the institut national de la recherche scientifique, Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre (INRS-EMT), and the University of Bordeaux (CELIA lab), we aim to establish the roots for the quantum-based technology of tomorrow. We will investigate how ultrafast laser pulses can be used to effectively tune the electronic properties of quantum materials and drive the emergence of novel quantum phases of matter on ultrafast timescales. This forefront study will be enabled by combining two complementary and unique worldwide time-resolved photoemission systems at INRS and U. Bordeaux, thus granting unprecedented insights into how electrons react to intense light excitations inside quantum materials. These research efforts will focus on the light-control of the electronic properties of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), which are a promising platform for developing novel spintronic and optoelectronic devices. In particular, by taking advantage of the temporal periodicity of ultrashort laser pulses, we aim to engineer the optical and transport properties of TMDs by tuning how electrons interact inside the matter on demand. This project will seed a new collaboration between INRS and U. Bordeaux, which will result in the training of highly qualified personnel in the emergent field of light-control of quantum matter. Moreover, this research will establish new experimental protocols for on-demand control of quantum materials, effectively placing Canada in a privileged position for the design and engineering of next-generation optoelectronic devices.
