The present proposal extends the program projected in 2016 and focuses on aspects related to modeling, analysis, manufacturing and test of microsystems with the overall scope to advance the development of microsystems and microfluidics into a more streamed process. The main applications focus on the development of efficient microfluidics which are conceived as function blocks. The creation of models of such modular functional microfluidic blocks will enable the fast design, analysis, optimization and finally, fabrication of microfluidic circuits fast and efficient. The development, model creation, analysis and validation of models of such modules of such function blocks will constitute one stream of work. The investigation will be extended to development of paper based microfluidics. The paper such prepared will be a combination of cellulose paper and starch based paper which will enable controlled capillary flow. The work will extend to other types of paper based microsystems including functionalized cantilever beams from paper and paper-like materials. The investigation is extended to development of piezoelectric paper made micro-cantilever beams used for energy scavenging. The investigations will be extended to paper-based - including starch paper microfluidics where the intent is to be able to fully control the porous flow into porous media. I also plan to continue my previously initiated research focusing on microcantilever beams with applications in energy harvesting/scavenging, for applications related to wearables and also, for detection of viscosity of small volume of fluids.
