Power HV patented technology is helping customers increase the efficiency and stability of their grid. Located in Reston, Manitoba, Power HV produces monitoring sensors for transformers that can connect to other sensors using WiFi and telecommunication networks. Indeed, remote monitoring systems can provide important strategic and competitive advantages that improve profitability and efficiency while saving the environment. As the company focuses on reducing energy usage, CO2 emissions, and water consumption, they recognize the need for the development of a novel diagnostic monitoring system (DDMS) to be displayed on a customer SCADA system. In collaboration, Power HV and Lambton College will focus on the development of a novel diagnostic monitoring system (DDMS). To do this, the team will focus on the selection and development of a prototype monitoring hardware as well as the development of a cloud dashboard to view the streamed data. The team will also develop a unique enclosure for the device to fit on a targeted energy handling unit such as a distribution transformer. The success of the proposed project will provide Power HV with a new product to bring to market. The combination of Power HV technology with industrial SCADA systems will result in a user-friendly system that will allow the user to manage, monitor, and control the systems remotely. The development of the DDMS device will further allow Power HV to monitor the quality of supply on transformers to be able to send alerts to utilities informing them of overloading, outages, and power quality problems on certain pole-top transformers. In addition, the implementation of a monitoring system will reduce unnecessary costs for utility companies and ultimately save money. Power HV also predicts that the successful development of this product will lead to revenue growth of $3 to $4 million in the next five years as well as to the creation of new full-time positions.
