US-Japan Seminar on Stability of Steel Structures Under Cyclic Loading and US-Taiwan Workshop on Analysis and Designof Structures with Enhanced Damping Capacity

本项目为项目负责人提供赴日本、台湾进行短期科研访问合作研究的国际差旅支持。调查员将：(1)与东京大学的研究人员就地震稳定性问题开展合作，作为先前举行的关于该主题的联合研讨会的后续工作；(2)与台湾的研究人员一起对增强抗震结构的阻尼能力进行初步研究。这两项任务合并在一起，将于1992年夏季在一次前往远东的旅行中完成。这些研究将提高对两个重要课题的工程理解，即土木基础设施系统的地震稳定性和阻尼增强。预计将为今后关于这些主题的合作研讨会制定方案框架。

This project provides international travel support for the principal investigator to conduct cooperative studies in Japan and Taiwan on a short-term scientific visit basis. The investigator will: (1) work with Tokyo University researchers on seismic stability problems as a follow-up to a previously held joint seminar on the subject, and (2) engage in preliminary study on the enhancement of damping capabilities in earthquake- resistant structures with Taiwan investigators. Both tasks are combined to be carried out in a single trip to the Far East during the Summer of 1992. The studies will improve engineering understanding of two important subjects, i.e., seismic stability and damping enhancement in civil infrastructure systems, and are expected to develop program framework for future cooperative seminars on these subjects.
