The purpose of this study is to analyze the multidimensional structure of semi-health condition, to determine the evaluated scalings with multidimensional spaces among school-aged children in Japan, to propose a model of the semi-health index, which indicated a level of transitional condition on health among the children, and to clarify a distribution of the children with semi-health symptoms in Japan. The semi-health questionnaire, which consisted of 53 items regarding physical and mental condition based on subjective symptoms, daily living behaviors and consciousness, demographic information, and height and weight, was administered to 2,014 school-aged subjects in 2003. The principal component analysis was applied to the valid data, 1,906 subjects, in order to extract indices that represented structural characteristics on semi-health condition. The Hayashi's quantification method type II was applied in order to determine the semi-health index and its cutoff point. A distribution curv … More e based on values of the semi-health index was drawn on two-dimensional space. The multidimensional structure of the semi-health condition was explained by four principal components and the first principal component score was adopted as the semi-health index. The semi-health index distinguished good health with semi-health condition. The represented distribution with semi-health symptoms was drawn as a normal curve after smoothing. It was suggested that four principal components will be represented the multidimensional structure of the semi-health condition among school-aged children, and will be able to interpret as multidimensional scalings evaluated the semi-health condition. The semi-health index indicates that a critical point derived from the cutoff point will indicate a boundary to the stage of susceptibility and the pre-clinical stage based on natural history of disease. A distribution of school-aged children based on the semi-health index will be shown as a normal curve after smoothing, and be able to use as the predictive expression on the semi-health condition.
