This study intended to elucidate the mechanism and concepts of reserve potential relating to coping behavior for human stress. The physiological, biochemical and psycho-social analysis of investigations and experiments suggest concerning 1)job stress, 2)stress in daily life, and 3)stress-related disease, : (1)To evaluate reserve potential relating to coping behavior for mental work stress utilizing work performance, subjective and objective symptoms, not only the process but also environmental factors in mental work are relevant. (2)Alpha peak frequency may be a parameter to evaluate reserve potential relating to coping behavior for mental work stress. (3)The early intervention is effective for recovery from mental crisis precipitated by changes of position and role in office workers, because of sufficient insight and cooperativeness for resolving conflicts. (4)The decrease and recovery ratio of skin temperature and blood flow velocity in capillaries exposed to cooling water may reflect a decrease of reserve potential relating to coping behavior for cold stress. (5)In white-collar workers the decrease of static balance and muscle endurance in aging is larger than in blue-collar workers. (6)Power spectral density of alpha wave in EEG may reflect the influence of higher nervous activity, and latency in somatosensory evoked potentials may be a parameter to evaluate reserve potential relating to coping behavior for stress by urban noise. (7)The tendency to temporal irregularity in school children including sleep deficiency may affect decrease of reserve potential relating to coping behavior for their daily stress. (8)Free plasma glucose levels in the recovery process of patients with non-insulin dependant diabetes mellitus have different periodic changes from the control with normal tolerance of blood sugar.
