DNA methylation is an epigenetic modification that has potential to provide insights into disease mechanisms but also to predict the risk of future disease, irrespective of its causal role in disease processes. This programme of work will extend our knowledge of population level variation in DNA methylation and investigate the relevance of this variation in disease. We will seek to identify novel biomarkers of disease onset and disease progression and model ways in which these biomarkers can be use to stratify groups according to risk.
