Breast density

乳房密度，即乳房中腺组织的比例，是乳腺癌风险的已知指标。可靠地测量它将允许智能地为每个妇女选择个性化的筛查间隔，从而优化资源的使用，并将低风险妇女的剂量降至最低。该项目将开发一种基于数据科学的方法，用于根据HEXITEC像素化光谱技术的光谱信息计算乳房密度。光谱探测器提供关于被检测光束的全部光谱信息，这是常规探测器无法访问的，从而允许在不同能量范围内同时采集。HEXITEC系统具有亚keV能量分辨率，是实现这一目的的理想仪器。数据科学将允许利用完整的光谱信息，而不是孤立的光谱成分。

Breast density, i.e., the fraction of glandular tissue in a breast, is a known indicator of breast cancer risk. Measuring it reliably would allow intelligent selection of a personalised screening interval for each woman, thus optimising use of resources and minimising dose for low-risk women. The project will develop a data-science based methodology for breast density calculation from spectral information from the HEXITEC pixellated spectroscopic technology. Spectroscopic detectors provide the full spectral information on the detected beam, which is not accessible with conventional detectors, thereby allowing simultaneous acquisitions at a range of different energies. The HEXITEC system, featuring sub-keV energy resolution, is the ideal instrument for this purpose. Data science will allow the exploitation of the full spectroscopicinformation, as opposed to isolated spectral components.
