英文摘要
A.1. Institutional Concept of the Center. We have had remarkable success in developing our ICMIC as the focal point for the development of novel in vivo molecular imaging strategies at Washington University. This has involved reinforcing ongoing collaborations, developing new collaborations and enhancing the productivity of multidisciplinary programs in basic and translational cancer research on campus. The ICMIC has promoted excellence in cancer research by providing a formal process for interdisciplinary interaction. This has not only lead to new information in the cellular and molecular biology of cancer, but also enhanced the pathway toward novel diagnostic and therapeutic regimens. Thus, our NCI-funded Molecular Imaging Center program at Washington University has made documented steps to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention. One area of institutional impact has been in relation to BioMed 21, an institution-wide strategic research initiative that aims to rapidly translate genomic science into patient care. BioMed 21 has been approved at the highest levels and will reshape the Washington University culture over the next 10 years to rapidly convert the knowledge of the genetic blueprint of human beings into effective, individualized treatments. BioMed 21 establishes three new research units that span both campuses of Washington University: The Center for Genomics and Human Genetics, the Division of Clinical Sciences and importantly, the Center for Biological Imaging. WU has committed to the construction of a 250,000 squarefoot building in the center of the medical campus dedicated to bridge the basic and clinical sciences. The Center for Biological Imaging will be housed in this new building, and our ICMIC program will have a major presence in this initiative, providing the potential to further solidify in one central location our current assembly of dedicated investigators.
