英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The Molecular Biology Core integrates with and enhances the capabilities of our existing Biotechnology Support Facility and Microarray Facility with histories of success in augmenting and extending the research programs of investigators at KUMC. This core will assist COBRE investigators by providing cost-effective
services for the synthesis of oligonucleotides, DMA sequence analysis and microarray chip processing. Eighty percent of our center members (16/20) and 4 of the 5 COBRE project new junior investigators have utilized th ese facilities during the last two years. Of the five center faculty that have not utilized these
facilities, two just arrived on campus and another will assume his position in January 2007. Usage by this group of researchers accounts for 22% of all KUMC oligonucleotide synthesis, 97% of DMA sequencing and 33% of microarray chip analysis during fiscal year 2006 alone. This facility will provide all COBRE scientists
with services to synthesize oligonucleotides, obtain DMA sequence determination and analysis, and supply microarray chips and chip processing technologies to center investigators. The COBRE funds will subsidize activities for the junior investigators and for members of the center who use the core, and the institution will continue to provide significant state support for this facility. The Biotechnology Support Facility is staffed by a lab manager and three personnel. One of these personnel also serves as the project manager of the Microarray Facility. All are experts with the methods required and will interface with the COBRE Molecular Biology Core Advisor. Finally, the core will expand to provide new technology by offering BAG
recombineering expertise and assistance. A Research Associate with experience in this area will be hired to implement and staff this service.
