Evaluation of new polymers, composites and polymer solutions for 3D printing

3D printing is an exciting new and rapidly evolving technology that has attracted significant attention from the general public, the academic community and industry. This technology is believed to have a significant impact on the traditional manufacturing process and has the potential to change the approach of how we design and fabricate all kinds of real end user products. Due to the lack of easily processable polymeric materials available on the market, the breadth of application of this technology has been very limited so far and the quality of the end product is not optimized. Therefore, the overall objective of this project will focus on the development of new polymers, polymer composites and polymer solutions for 3D printing. This project will be in collaboration with Machina Corp. which will provide full support in the testing and evaluation of the new polymeric materials. The desired outcome of this project includes a better understanding of the physical and chemical properties of the polymers, polymer composites and polymer solutions to be investigated.
