Today's EV charging systems are very conservatively designed; significant advances are needed to optimize their**cost, reliability, safety, and lifespan while unlocking their maximum charging speed. This requires new,**sophisticated models of their tightly-coupled electrical and thermal responses to guarantee reliable continuous**operation, scalability and minimum footprint. In ATOMS lab, we are strategically positioned to accelerate design**innovation of these novel fast-charging systems. The goal of the proposed project is to develop a transformative,**optimal air-cooling system for eCAMION's ultra-high-power AC/DC and DC/DC converter modules for EV fast**charging. We will conduct thermal characterizations of electronic components, multi-physics computational**simulations, and sensitivity and optimization studies of the thermal management system, whose performance is**governed by tight, non-linear coupling between thermal and electrical phenomena. To meet this challenge, we**propose a concurrent multi-physics simulation approach for thermal design and optimization, simultaneously**considering thermal and electrical aspects. The most relevant technical challenges in this thermal design are the**modelling and simulation of coupled, multi-scale, multi-physics phenomena, key for the design and optimization of**this novel engineering system. Cutting-edge developments in fast-charging technology, which are enabling the EV**revolution, require concurrent consideration of thermal and electrical phenomena, as well as component- and**system-level dynamics and control.
