Les importants progrès réalisés déjà en développement d'équipements de sport ont eu pour effet de**démocratiser ces produits en les rendant accessibles au consommateur moyen. Toutefois, les méthodes de**fabrication traditionnelles comportent des limitations quant à la production de pièces complexes aux coûts**raisonnables. La fabrication additive (FA) est une méthode de fabrication par ajout de matière de pièces**géométriquement complexes en métaux et en polymères directement à partir d'un fichier numérique, ce qui**permet d'augmenter les performances mécaniques, réduire les délais de commercialisation et ainsi réduire les**coûts des produits.**Ce projet vise l'utilisation de l'impression 3D pour améliorer les performances, tout en diminuant le poids, des**produits phares de la compagnie Bauer Hockey Ltd. : les lames de patins et les bâtons de hockey. Pour les**lames de patin, il est envisagé d'utiliser le procédé de fusion laser sur lit de poudre (FA métallique) pour**développer une lame monobloc en acier combinant une partie entièrement dense avec une partie architecturée**avec un poids réduit et une rigidité nécessaire au bon patinage. D'un autre côté, il est proposé d'utiliser le**processus de FA par dépôt de fil en fusion (FA polymérique) afin de produire le coeur de palette à densité**graduée, combinant la légèreté, la rigidité et les capacités d'amortir les chocs.**Ce projet devrait permettre d'améliorer l'accès des amateurs canadiens aux équipements de sport performants,**mais aux prix abordables.
