As the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in the world is projected to increase significantly, investigating the**potential applications for used EV batteries with residual capacity over 70-80% of their initial capacity is**necessary. One economical option is to repurpose End-of-Life (EOL) EV batteries for stationary energy storage**applications. This can lower operating costs of the manufacturers by providing services such as peak shaving and**arbitrage, and also reduces the reliance on electrical power grid by enhancing opportunities to incorporate**renewable sources.**Despite all the advantages, repurposed battery energy storage system technology is still in its infancy and**requires more research and development. In this project, a customizable energy/power management system**composed of repurposed Li-ion battery modules will be developed and tested. Through real-time communication**with the power grid and the demand side, the management system would enable optimizing the energy/power**traffic, and consequently reducing the consumer energy costs and associated CO2 intensity. In addition, the**management system could be readily tuned and scaled up for a variety of industry-level applications such as**manufacturing plants with intense energy/power demand profiles.
