Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a well established technology to convert biomass to energy and reduce the**environmental impacts of organic wastes such as organic fraction of municipal solid waste, sewage sludge or dairy waste. However, the AD process is susceptible to influence of toxicity due to high ammonia concentrations.**Ammonia is the by-product resulting from the AD of proteins content of organic matter and it has been reported**as a major inhibitor of microbial activities during AD process. A wide range and varying effect for ammonia**toxicity has been reported in the literature. Also, there is very limited information available on removal of ammonia from digestate of Co-Digestion process of mixed feedstock. **CHFour Biogas is a Canadian company and an industry leader in the field of AD. CHFour Biogas specializes in the**design, installation and optimization of anaerobic digestion systems for the agricultural, industrial and municipal**sectors throughout North and South America offering a comprehensive list of services including feasibility study**and analysis, biogas system design & specification, consultations and construction management, feed stock**evaluation & system modeling, permitting, approvals, and regulations. CH Four Biogas is interested in conducting research on the feasibility of enhancing the performance of anaerobic Co-Digestion (A-CoD) of mixed feedstock organics (including livestock manure, digestible manufacturing waste, pre- and post-consumer food wastes) by removal of ammonia. **The research will be carried out by conducting a series of laboratory biomethane potential (BMP) experiments according to a full factorial experimental design to evaluate the feasibility of different methods for removal of ammonia and its effect on biogas production from A-CoD of mixed organic feedstock wastes. Results will advance the existing knowledge on the design and operation of AD process.
