My research program seeks to develop, test, and validate a new diagnostic technology platform for rapid disease diagnosis, wearable biosensing, and in-vivo gut-intestinal microbiome sampling that can be used for the next generation of digital health monitoring, accurate disease detection, and precision diagnostics. The technology platform relies on combining capillary microfluidics taking care of sample preparation and electrochemical biosensors for ultrasensitive detection of various bodily fluid markers. My research program focuses on the diagnosis and prognosis of brain injuries, cancer, and infectious diseases, wearable detection of human stress using human sweat and saliva biomarkers, and non-invasive and spatial sampling and detection of gut-intestinal microbiome diversity. The impact of my research is to improve the health and the quality of life of healthy people and patients, to reduce the cost of the healthcare system with accurate and personalized diagnosis and prognosis of patients, to provide an equitable diagnosis platform to serve remote populations, and to train the new generation of biomedical experts with interdisciplinary expertise in diagnostics, medical devices, and sensors.
