Data in Canadian healthcare is extraordinarily fractured. In the June 2022 Digital Health Canada conference, PwC Health Consulting presented a 2019 survey which shows only 22% of Canadian physicians are able to exchange data with doctors outside of their practice. This places Canada significantly behind most other first-world economies, including those with public healthcare systems like Canada. TAMVOES is a women-led company aiming to solve that fracture with its goal to empower individuals with their health information; giving them the ability to make more informed health care decisions. They are the creator of the Tamvoes personal health record (PHR) software platform, that seeks to help better manage an individual's health by empowering them to collect and securely store copies of their health history, allergies, vitals and appointments online. They have an opportunity to increase their customer base by extending it to hospitals and large clinics, especially those using electronic medical records (EMR) in their operations. The first objective is to interface between TAMVOES and major EMR's through implementation of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) protocols. MEDIC is a leading national digital health research and development hub serving the health community since 2009, and has been working with Tamvoes since June 2021. The MEDIC team has highly relevant applied research expertise with FHIR, software and integrations architecting, and digital health. MEDIC and TAMVOES will collaborate to develop an extension to the Tamvoes integration gateway to interface bi-directionally with a major EMR, for an implementation at a major Southern Ontario hospital. The project results will help TAMVOES to sell to hospitals and larger clinics who use the major EMR. Further, it will help Tamvoes to further develop their infrastructure and connect to additional EMRs. It will help a larger customer base and their stakeholders to securely access virtual records of health documents with the most up-to-date information - anywhere and anytime - will allow users to make better-informed health decisions for themselves and the people they care for.
