The project will explore the archaeological evidence of medieval rural settlement development in Brandenburg.It records the change of the region, which is initially inhabited by slavs, from the end of the 12th century to the period of abandoned villages in the 14th and 15th century.The analysis is carried out in transregional comparison for the derivation of possible areas of origin of the participating settlers.The two completely excavated medieval villages or deserted villages of Horno and Diepensee from two distinct regions of Brandenburg give the base for studies of development and change of sacred and profane construction, infrastructure, burials, ceramic tradition, land development and general organizing principles of settlements and agriculture.
